Day 2 of Ceylon Serenity Tours is all about exploring the ancient ruins of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's most celebrated ruined city. Be prepared to be wowed by the city's most treasured attractions - its hemispherical dagabas constructed with small sun-dried bricks. Don't miss the Ruvanveli, which is 300ft in diameter and dates back to the 2nd Century BC, the 370ft Jetawanarama, and the Thuparama, which enshrines the collarbone of the Buddha. The sacred Bo-Tree is also a must-see, as it's said to have grown from a branch of the tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment 2250 years ago - making it the oldest historic tree in the world! After soaking up all the history and culture of Anuradhapura, you'll either head to Dambulla or Sigiriya for dinner and a comfortable overnight stay at a hotel in either of these locations.
Day 3 is all about exploring ancient wonders and marveling at the ingenuity of our ancestors. First up is a visit to Sigiriya, also known as the "Fortress in the Sky," which is an awe-inspiring 5th-century palace complex built atop a massive rock. The highlight of the climb is the incredible frescoes of life-sized damsels that have survived for centuries. After a morning of exploring Sigiriya, it's time to head to Polonnaruwa, the capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th to 13th century. There you'll find some of the most beautiful and largest shrine ruins, stupas, and statues, including the impressive Parakrama Bahu statue. Dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel round out the day's adventures.
Day 4 of your Sri Lankan adventure is jam-packed with exciting activities and visits! After a delicious breakfast, hop on a tour bus and head to Kandy. On the way, you'll visit the incredible Dambulla Cave Temple, where you can explore the fascinating Rock Temple dating back to the First Century BC. You'll also stop by a spice garden in Matale and a batik factory to witness the manufacturing process of these beautiful prints.
Once you arrive in Kandy, you'll embark on a city tour that includes Upper Lake Drive, Market Square, Arts and Crafts Centre, and the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. You'll learn about the rich Buddhist traditions and witness a cultural show before settling in for the night at your hotel. Kandy is the last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings and is an example of Buddhism's influence in Sri Lanka today. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is the country's most prized possession, and you'll have the opportunity to explore this sacred site.
Get ready for an unforgettable day filled with history, culture, and stunning sights!
